Treatment Benefits
A healthy, attractive smile is a source of confidence and emotional well-being. It's also an important part of an individual's overall health. Teeth, lips and jaws that aren't correctly aligned can result in "malocclusion," or "bad bite." Uncorrected, a bad bite may lead to poor oral function, tooth decay, gum disease and eventually tooth loss. Braces and other corrective procedures can help achieve tooth and jaw alignment and, most importantly, a healthy, confident smile that can last a lifetime.
How Orthodontic Treatment Works
Orthodontic appliances can be made of metal, ceramic or plastic. They may be removable, or they may be brackets bonded to the teeth. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, braces slowly move teeth to a corrected position.
This is a great time to wear braces! Gone are the days when a metal band with a bracket was placed around each tooth. You can choose brackets that are clear or metallic color. In some cases, you can choose the color of the ties that hold the wire in brackets. Wires are also less noticeable than they used to be, and the latest materials move teeth faster with less discomfort to patients. For example, Eisen Orthodontics is proud to offer Damon® System technology, which features a unique, low-friction brace that requires less tightening.
Duration of Treatment
Treatment time typically ranges from one to three years, depending on the growth of the patient's mouth and face and the severity of the problem. Patients grow at different rates and will respond differently to orthodontic treatment, so the time to case completion may change from the original estimate. The patient's diligent use of any prescribed rubber bands or appliance is an important factor in achieving the most efficient treatment. We work closely with our patients to ensure they have the information, support and motivation necessary to actively advance their treatment and achieve their goals.
For Adults
While most people associate orthodontic treatment with children or teenagers, it can also benefit adults. In fact, today about one-third of all orthodontic patients are adults. Less visible, more comfortable braces — as well as options like the Invisalign® or Spark™ removable aligner systems — make treatment more appealing and more convenient than ever. As a certified provider, Dr. Eisen can help determine whether Invisalign or Spark are right for you, and if not, he'll identify the best treatment approach. Healthy teeth, bones and gums respond well to orthodontics at any age, and our patients tell us the positive impact on their appearance and self-esteem is unparalleled.
